“HOW TO GIVE YOUR CHILD THE BEST?” —
It’s rare that a mother doesn’t ask this question. It is the desire to provide their child with a great start that makes many future parents think about giving birth abroad.
WHAT FACTORS ARE IMPORTANT IN THIS CASE FOR MOMS AND DADS?
For sure, a pregnant woman wants to be surrounded by a friendly environment, supportive specialists and have the opportunity to enjoy beautiful scenery and healthy, delicious food before and after giving birth. The passport that the baby will receive when born on the territory of a foreign country plays an important role.

LET’S CONSIDER FIVE POPULAR OPTIONS OF “BIRTH TOURISM”.
1. USA. Without a doubt, it is the most prestigious and popular destination. As well as it doesn’t even need advertising. Pros: high quality medicine, a well-functioning process mechanism and American citizenship for the newborn. According to reviews, childbirth is carried out professionally, but cesarean section is more the norm than the exception to the rule. Cons: the high cost of both the birth and accommodation in Miami, where women usually give birth, difficulties in obtaining an American visa, a rather uncomfortable climate for most of the year if you choose childbirth on the coast. The most important disadvantage is the lifetime tax burden for any income.
2. Europe. Pros: in the developed countries of Europe there is excellent medicine and service, the climate can be chosen to suit your taste, everything is excellent with the surrounding beauty and high-quality food. You can also choose a birth plan based on your preferences. Cons: exorbitant prices for childbirth. Moreover, in Europe the child will not receive citizenship by right of soil.
3. Mexico. Pros: the main advantage of giving birth in Mexico is the citizenship of the newborn by right of the soil. The level of medicine is good in expensive private clinics. Otherwise, everything is quite specific and not for everybody: exotic food, hot climate, bright local color. All this is great from the point of view of a tourist, but is it really so great for the expectant mother? Cons: Mexico is a difficult country in terms of security. Crime is certainly developed. Safety is only in resort regions. Not all clinics offer natural childbirth. Midwives like the famous Angelina do not work with large medical centers.
A Tourist Electronic Permit is required to enter Mexico. Entering Mexico with a tourist permit to give birth to a child is illegal and considered fraud. Moreover, there is a possibility of this deception being discovered. For instance, in July 2019 dozens of foreigners were not allowed to come into Mexico and were even deported from Cancun airport (the most popular “maternity” destination).
4. Argentina. Both the pros and cons are very similar to Mexico. Let’s add to the pros greater climatic diversity (in the south of Argentina you can live among greenery and coolness even in the hot summer) and to the cons – an endless crisis in the country. As a result, the impoverishment of the population and the corresponding emotional background.
5. We will highlight Chile separately, since not much is known about this country. It is the last country on our list, but not least. Undoubted advantages: mild climate, good environment, excellent food. In private clinics there is a European level of medicine, doctors who speak English. Natural and home births are legal and practiced in Chile, for those who care. The attitude towards foreigners in Chile is overwhelmingly positive. Foreignersn are welcome guests and at the same time they are “white people” for chileans. The level of security in Chile is one of the highest in the world. It is safer in Chile than in the USA.
Typically, people who come to Chile for childbirth settle by the ocean. The healing breeze is an important factor that contributes to a comfortable pregnancy and quick recovery after childbirth. The photo shows the Chilean resort town of Viña-del-Mar.
The most important is that the baby receives a passport (by right of birth in Chile) which allows to visit 160 countries of the world without a visa, including the USA, Canada, EU countries, Japan and the UK. In international rankings, the Chilean passport ranks 11th in the world, ahead of Israel, Hong Kong, Mexico, Argentina and many other countries. As for the prices for “birth tourism”, they are approximately two times lower than the cost of similar services in the USA.
There are some downsides. The official language in Chile is Spanish. If you do not know it, you will have to use an interpreter service. However, every year it becomes less and less difficult, since many foreigners live in Chile and there is a company that provides birth support.
To sum it up, at first glance a trip to another country for childbirth may seem like a gamble to many people, in fact this is a completely logical step, which will in the future open the doors of the most attractive countries for living and working for your child!
