LOOKING FOR THE IDEAL NUTRITION FOR A PREGNANT WOMAN? GO TO CHILE!
“Science will get us into trouble, let’s go to have some food!” as was correctly noted by poet Daniil Kharms. Joking aside, there are few things more important to further mom than what she eats. The three pillars on which quality preparation for childbirth is based are physical activity, emotional harmony and quality nutrition. How is the bread and butter situation in Chile?
Let’s say right away that we consider this country ideal in terms of freshness and quality of products.
There are local and Argentinean meat that is considered to be the best in the world, freshly caught seafood, freshly picked fruits and vegetables…There is no out-of-the-ordinary exotic food here. But is it really necessary for expectant mothers? It is much more important that the path of products from the garden or the sea to your table is really short. However, there is also something unusual (and very useful!)
Local avocado (locals call it “palta”) will change your understanding of this vegetable. Chileans cannot imagine life without palta. The most favorite way to eat it is to use ripe fruit instead of… butter, spread it on bread. By the way, this combination is much healthier! In addition, the tender pulp with a slight nutty flavor contains an amazing range of useful nutritions: “right” fats, folic acid and much more. Avocado seed is an excellent natural antibiotic. Infusions from it are used for colds and flu.
Chilean seafood deserves a separate article. Here we will only say that it has the most important property for seafood – freshness. As well as ocean fish are not infected with dangerous parasites. To say the truth, local nutritionists still recommend consuming it in cooked form.
Chile is heaven for shellfish lovers!
Another love of Chileans is corn. You won’t find unusual varieties like in Peru, but the classic version is also great. Locals prepare the national dish “pastel de choclo”, which is something between a soup and a casserole and made from grated corn, milk, fried minced meat and chicken, with paprika, vigorous local basil and oregano, allspice and black olives. In addition, in Chile people love and appreciate corn flour and corn grits. In general, Chile is a paradise for lovers of a gluten-free diet.

A separate aromatic poem can be written about the spices and fresh greens of Chile. The plants acquire a particularly rich aroma under the generous local sun. The pepper (represented by countless types, from completely harmless to thermonuclear), ginger, turmeric, oregano, cumin and others are grow in this country and do not gather dust in warehouses, which without a doubt affects the freshness and aroma. Greens such as fresh lettuce and celery do not know seasons here and grow all year round.
Local greens are a delight for the senses of smell and taste!
So, no exotic stuff at all?
Well, anyway we can find something. For example, chirimoya is an unusual-looking, large fruit, with a smell and taste between pineapple and strawberry. Moreover, this fruit is much sweeter! By the way, in Indian medicine it was believed that chirimoya reduces the risk of miscarriages and pacifies pain during contractions. The last argument is not surprising. You can easily forget about everything while you are eating rumbling, juicy, aromatic pulp. Chirimoya is rich in natural sugars, vitamins C and A, and copper.
Chirimoya is a sweet and fragrant exotic fruit. The world’s most delicious antioxidant!
It is impossible to cover all the advantages of Chilean products in one article. Thus, Chile is a great place for those expectant mothers who value the opportunity to eat right.
The most importantly, the peak fruit season here falls in most countries’ winter months. At this time, posting a photo of yourself beaming with a glass of fresh berry smoothie (we recommend the ocean as a background) is a special pleasure. We, who have lived in Chile for several years, do this every February. By the way, we’re not tired of it!
